Our Expansion Project

Talbot Hospice recently completed an exciting expansion of its facility which has essentially doubled the footprint by adding 10,000 square feet. More than $5 million was raised for the building project and our endowment. 

The extension to Hospice House includes

  • Six new guest rooms with smart bed technology for patients’ utmost comfort and safety. The beds connect with the nurse call system and include a bed exit monitoring system, patient positioning system and integrated scale to weigh patients
  • Recliner chairs for patient and/or family member 
  • Pull-out sofas for family member to spend the night
  • Televisions
  • Bose iPad or iPod speaker dock for therapeutic music
  • State of the art nurse call system that monitors in the nurses’ station and in halls and kitchen to alert staff immediately as to which room is calling for assistance. Will monitor, track and report on over 30 individual data items for patient safety and comfort.
  • A private family area with kitchen for family dinners
  • Two additional caregiver stations
  • A fully commercial kitchen
  • A designated space for the Hospice chaplain
  • Much needed storage space

An enlarged Bereavement Center includes

  • Additional program space
  • A lending library for the community
  • A larger meeting room with media equipment

Other features include

  • New office space for clinical staff
  • A memory wall and garden
  • Terraces surrounding a shaded garden
  • Additional parking for families, visitors and staff

In order to become a full service medical hospice, the following additional up-front capital costs have been incurred

  • New electronic medical records systems and software
  • Computers, software and office furniture for expanded clinical staff
  • Upgraded phone and IT systems to enable smooth communications among Hospice personnel in the field and at Hospice House
