My mother's 81st birthday was January 16, the same day I met with the Talbot Hospice coordinator, who shared thorough information on in-home Hospice services. My mother's dementia was progressing quickly, like I had NOT seen in the last 9 years of caring for her with a private caregiver.
From the Nurse, Social Worker, and Aide, they were all mesmerized at how well my Mom had been cared for and how sweet she was. As time went on, I was able to work full days and sleep full nights because I knew between Mary, my private caregiver, and my Hospice Team, I was supported in whatever my Mom needed.
When March came, she had stopped eating and drinking, and her physical body began to deteriorate. I knew time was approaching, but my prayer was that God let her live past March 6. You see, that was the day in 2025 that my brother, her only son, passed away. God is faithful because He answered my prayers and called her home on March 31, 2026, at 10:00 p.m.
A Hospice Nurse arrived at the house to pronounce her and to call my chosen Funeral Home. She stayed with my sister, Mary, myself, and all the friends and family who gathered until the funeral home arrived and took Mommy away. Such great support was given from START to FINISH. Even now, I receive calls from the Grief Staff about every other month or so.
My hospice experience was right on time, knowledgeable, caring, and understanding. I would especially like to recognize Rebecca Hutchinson for the care and support she provided.
The message I would like to share with others is simple: 'Trust the process while working with your Hospice team!!!
