Guest Wing Admission and Costs

Admission and Costs

The Guest Wing has its own admission criteria that address the needs of each patient. It is not a “first come first serve” philosophy, but a set of criteria that determine the patients whose needs are most urgent. Maximum length of stay is two months or less.

In 2010, a new business model was implemented in the Guest Wing which includes a charge for room and board. Residents staying in the Guest Wing will be asked to pay up to 50% of the actual cost for room and board, based on their ability to pay.  The cost per day per patient is $385, however, we charge only $200 per day.  At least half of our Guest Wing patients have paid as little as $10 a day due to their financial situation

The Board of Directors has approved a new policy in the Guest Wing increasing the length of stay from two months to three months.  While the majority of our patients fall within the two month timeframe (median length of stay last year was 14 days), there have been a few instances where patients were approved for an additional month.  Extending the length of stay relieves families of the stress of possible discharge. This policy became effective in March 2012.

We will never turn away a patient for lack of ability to pay. Each situation is unique and will be evaluated individually by an objective financial committee separate from the Guest Wing.
